Dr. Karena Wu is Owner and Clinical Director of ActiveCare Physical Therapy® in NYC and Mumbai. She is a native of Los Angeles, California and has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California at Riverside. She has been practicing physical therapy for over 21 years in New York City. Dr. Wu graduated with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from the Program In Physical Therapy at Columbia University and received her Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Temple University. She has advanced training in manual therapies, specifically in the Maitland Australian Approach and Myofascial Release. She is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. Dr. Wu is a Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars (MAPS) Faculty member and teaches taping at NYC’s Hunter College Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program . She is also a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Kinesiology Tape Practitioner, Graston Technique Specialist and Pilates Instructor. She holds LSVT BIG, FMS and SFMA Level 1 certifications as well. Dr. Wu also specializes in vertigo and temporomandibular joint disorders.
Dr. Wu is a dedicated practitioner who takes a holistic approach to her practice. She trains all of the therapists working in the NY and Mumbai locations with her holistic practice philosophy. She actively networks with a team of physicians, chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, personal trainers and Pilates instructors and other holistic providers. Her patient population consists of high net worth professionals, international royalty, professional athletes, dancers, celebrity chefs, celebrity Broadway/TV/film stars, and NYPD/FDNY. Dr. Wu practices in her New York and Mumbai clinic and with clients privately.
Dr. Wu is used as a healthcare expert on CBS, NBC, NY1, PIX11, Verizon Fios, Fox News, The Doctors and Dr. Oz. She is the Medical Director for the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP), the premier US professional beach volleyball tournament series in America. Dr. Wu was also the Director of Education for SpiderTech Kinesiology Tape.
Dr. Sharvari Satghare, born and raised in India, achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from K.J. Somaiya Hospital, Mumbai. While studying, she explored different domains of rehabilitation, undertook research, developed manual skills and enhanced her clinical reasoning and decision making ability. She further graduated with a Masters Degree in Advancing Physical Therapy Practice from Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom. While in U.K, she expanded her knowledge through specialization in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation and refined her skills with clinical experience within Nation Health Service (NHS) system. Upon returning to India, she bagged the opportunity of working at a renowned multi-specialty hospital in Mumbai, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. While working within an inter-disciplinary team of orthopedics, neurologists, occupation therapists and orthotists, she treated a wide array of patient population including acute and chronic conditions, postural syndromes, non- surgical as well as post-operative orthopedic cases.
Sharvari added another feather to her hat with a Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Loma Linda University, United States, which widened her horizon to holistic care. She continues to learn new techniques and keep herself updated with the current evidence. With proficient communication skills and by utilizing the tools such as Maitland mobilization, Myofascial/soft tissue release, Kinesio-taping, therapeutic exercises, ergonomics and more, she empowers her patients to get better.
Sharvari finds herself passionate to be in patient’s shoes and walk through the process with them. With eagerness to help others and by incorporating empathy and patient-centered care, she strives to get her patients back to their functional self . Being a dancer, she believes ‘Movement is life’ and promotes the significance of physical exercise with mental well-being.
Brian Weisner was born and raised in Queens, New York. He received his dual Bachelor and Master degrees in Physical Therapy at Long Island University in 2000 and has 23 years of experience working in the field. Brian also received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Montana in May 2023. Brian initially started working in outpatient orthopedics and transitioned to working full time at the Department of Education to provide pediatric physical therapy for children with disabilities. He realized the need for better quality care for children when his nephew needed physical therapy growing up. Brian maintained part-time work throughout to keep up his orthopedic skills and has had a long, successful career working in the two settings.
Brian is trained under Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars (MAPS) for advanced skilled manual therapy. He also has many years of experience working with instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM). He is trained in the Graston Technique. Brian believes it is more important to find and treat the cause of the illness and not just treat the symptoms. Brian uses the treatment techniques of the Maitland Australian Approach, myofascial release and IASTM and utilizes Pilates and Therapeutic Exercise to help heal the condition. This allows the symptoms to diminish quickly and he is able to help restore clients to their pre-injury functional abilities.
Brian specializes in the field of Orthopedics to help on a musculoskeletal level for strength and conditioning, Neurology to restore neuromuscular activation of posture, alignment and function, and in Pediatrics to help children understand and learn how to function. He works closely with caregivers of his young clients and has been commended by his peers and the parents on his excellent ability to communicate and follow through on care.
Brian was a professional Firefighter and EMT before becoming a physical therapist. He understands how injuries can impact life based on his own injuries working in this noble profession. He enjoys playing hockey, soccer, spending time with his 4 children and playing his PlayStation. He looks forward to adding his expertise to ActiveCare Physical Therapy and continuing to grow as a clinician and professional.
Alexandra Corinaldesi was born and raised on Long Island, New York. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Dance Movement Studies and Biology from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2019 and went on to receive her Doctorate of Physical Therapy Degree from Long Island University in May 2023.
Alexandra is passionate about getting people back to what they love to do. She understands the need to get back on the stage, court, or field. Alexandra was a dancer for over 20 years, skier, basketball, volleyball, and lacrosse player. She considers Physical Therapy a team sport and loves working collaboratively with her patients to analyze their movements and get them back to their best self. During her doctoral studies, Alexandra had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of patient populations. She has experience with geriatric, orthopedic, and neurological conditions.
Alexandra believes Physical Therapy treatment is most effective when approached holistically. She combines her knowledge of nutrition, strength training, and mental well-being for a more well-rounded treatment. She uses a wide variety of therapeutic exercise, including Pilates, to individualize her care to each patient. She loves to learn new techniques and keep herself updated with current evidence. Alexandra enjoys utilizing the treatment techniques/principles of the Maitland Australian Approach, myofascial soft tissue release, and kinesiology taping. She is looking forward to working with her patients at ActiveCare Physical Therapy and continuing to grow as a clinician and professional.
Alexandra loves spending her free time travelling around the world and participating in outdoor activities. Her summers are spent hiking through nature and relaxing on the beach. She also loves time with her family which oftentimes involves trying different cuisines.
