Dr. Karena Wu is Owner and Clinical Director of ActiveCare Physical Therapy® in NYC and Mumbai. She is a native of Los Angeles, California and has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California at Riverside. She has been practicing physical therapy for over 19 years in New York City. She graduated with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from the Program In Physical Therapy at Columbia University and received her Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Temple University. She has advanced training in manual therapies, specifically in the Maitland Australian Approach and Myofascial Release. She is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists and Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars (MAPS) Faculty. Karena is also a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Kinesiology Tape Practitioner and Pilates Instructor. She holds LSVT BIG, FMS and SFMA Level 1 certifications as well.
Karena is a dedicated practitioner who takes a holistic approach to her practice. She trains all of the therapists working in the NY and Mumbai locations with her holistic practice philosophy. She actively networks with a team of physicians, chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, personal trainers and Pilates instructors. Her patient population consists of high net worth professionals, international royalty, professional athletes, dancers, chefs, celebrity Broadway/TV/film stars, and NYPD/FDNY. She has a limited practice in NY, Mumbai and with private clients.
Karena is used as a healthcare expert on CBS, NBC, NY1, PIX11, Verizon Fios, Fox News, The Doctors and Dr. Oz. She is the Medical Director for the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP), the US professional beach volleyball tournament series. Karena was the Director of Education for SpiderTech Kinesiology Tape and continues to work with all kinesiology tape companies.
Roshni was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She obtained a Bachelor in Kinesiology and Health Science from York University in Toronto while working as a Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP) testing firefighters and professional hockey athletes. Roshni went on to pursue her Masters in Physical Therapy from Robert Gordon University in Scotland. Upon qualifying in 2015, she ventured down to London in pursuit of working within the one of the top ranked healthcare systems in the world, the National Health Service (NHS). She chose this healthcare system to broaden her understanding of patients from all settings from acute care to long-term care. Her unique experience has exposed Roshni to musculoskeletal and orthopaedic patients, cardiovascular and respiratory patients, post-operative management and geriatrics.
In 2019, Roshni traded in the London city life for the New York City life. Roshni spent her childhood years in New York City and knew that when the opportunity came around she would fulfil that dream.
Roshni’s understanding of healthcare has cultivated her belief in holistic patient-centered care and the creation of meaningful connections with her patients. She is committed on expanding her knowledge and skills in the application of evidence based techniques of Physical Therapy while prioritizing functional mobility. She is continuously finding ways to expand her abilities particularly in manual therapy through but not limited to the Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars (MAPS), instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) via Graston, taping and cupping techniques.
Roshni considers herself a health enthusiast. Having grown up playing competitive sports she has discovered her new passion within the world of triathlon. Her training is always focused on improving the three disciplines of a triathlon – swimming, cycling and running. In the 2019 she completed her first Ironman 70.3 in Mont. Tremblant, Quebec. Roshni speaks fluent French and Gujarati.
