Tight calf or heel muscles and excessive pronation or supination (movements that mean rolling your foot inward or outward) can also lead to plantar fasciitis, says Karena Wu, a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy at Activecare Physical Therapy. “Plantar fasciitis is typically caused from overuse and subsequent tightening of the calf and plantar fascia tissue,” she says. “Shoes that have cushioning and arch support will be beneficial for those with plantar fasciitis.”
