Dr. Karena Wu


Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy

Dr. Karena Wu is owner and Clinical Director of ActiveCare Physical Therapy®. She is a native of Los Angeles, California and has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California at Riverside. She has been practicing physical therapy for 16 years in New York City after she graduated from the Program In Physical Therapy at Columbia University. She received her clinical doctorate in physical therapy from Temple University. She has advanced training in manual therapies, specifically in the Maitland Australian Approach and Myofascial Release. Karena is a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Kinesiology Tape Practitioner and Pilates Instructor. She is also LSVT BIG, FMS and SFMA Level 1 Certified.

Karena is a dedicated practitioner who takes a holistic approach to her practice. She actively networks with a team of physicians, chiropractors, acupuncturists and massage therapists. Her patient population consists of professional athletes, dancers, celebrity chefs, Broadway, TV and movie stars, international royalty, high end business professionals, and NYPD/FDNY.

Karena is used as a healthcare expert on CBS, NBC, NY1, PIX11, Verizon Fios, Fox News and Dr. Oz. She is the Director of Education for SpiderTech Kinesiology Tape and is on the Medical Board of the Association of Volleyball Professionals.

Dominika Piestrak


Dominika Piestrak originates from Krakow, Poland. She graduated with a Masters in Physical Therapy from Jagiellonian University in Poland. Dominika has lived in multiple cities and worked in numerous areas of expertise in her pursuit of a broad range of training. Her professional career started in Paris in an orthopedic private practice where she was trained in the treatment of Scoliosis (TGS 3D). Dominika then pursued advanced clinical education at Kaiser Permanente hospital in California. She completed a Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Reeducation residency program which focused on patient care post stroke, brain injury, and other neurological conditions.

Dominika's treatment philosophy is guided by an exploration of how a patient's unique body structure/composition is connected to their presenting condition. She combines manual therapy (Maitland, Cyriax and the Mulligan approach) and neuromuscular reeducation with specific therapeutic exercises to help her patients achieve optimal results. Her personalized and holistic approach results in a well-tailored plan for every patient's unique needs.

Dominika resides in New York City where she specializes in orthopedic and sports medicine rehabilitation. She enjoys traveling, exploring New York City, and staying active. Her goals are to attain board specialization in orthopedics and a certificate in orthopedic manual therapy through the Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars.

Chutima Phanpho


Chutima Phanpho is originally from Thailand where she received a Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy from Mahidol University. She recently graduated from New York University with a Masters degree in Pathokinesiology. Before she moved to New York City, she held several positions as a lab assistant, medical textbook illustrator and as a physical therapist in private practice in Bangkok.

Chutima has a passion for raising the quality of life of her clients. Her treatment is based on exercise and integrative manual techniques such as the Maitland Australian Approach, the Mulligan concept, Craniosacral Therapy, Lymphatic drainage therapy, and Visceral and Neural manipulation. Her research study focuses on sports related injuries, specifically in runners. Chutima devotes her time to review cases and find different ways to improve her patients condition.

In her leisure time, Chutima enjoys learning new skills, reading, drawing and meditation. She likes to explore new places and want to experience all of the activities New York City has to offer.

Dr. Kelly Picciurro


Dr. Kelly Picciurro was born in New York and raised in New Jersey. In 2013, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland. After completing her undergraduate studies, she worked at ActiveCare Physical Therapy® for one year as a Therapy Aide, where her passion for the profession grew.

In 2017, Kelly earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree, graduating with honors in both clinical excellence and community service from Rutgers University. While studying physical therapy, she gained experience with disabled children and athletes who had various orthopedic conditions in both outpatient and hospital settings.

Kelly understands that medical education is an ongoing process and, as such, continues to supplement her university education with courses in manual therapy from Maitland Australian Approach, Graston technique and myofascial decompression. She has taken several advanced courses in these fields and is eager to continue to enhance her expertise. Kelly is passionate about the physical therapy field. She prides herself on her approach to holistic and personalized treatment for every individual patient.

In Kelly's free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking and exercising. Her goals are to pursue a specialist certification in orthopedics and to become a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist via Maitland Australian Physiotherapy Seminars.

Dr. Laura Schuber


Dr. Laura Schubert was born and raised in Queens, New York. In 2007, she graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance. At Hunter, Laura studied Contemporary Dance, Ballet and Composition and was part of the Hunter College Dance Company. Following undergrad, Laura continued exploring her passion for movement working as both a dancer and choreographer, performing at various venues and workshops around New York. Laura also worked as a personal trainer at New York Sports Club and taught dance and fitness classes to adults and children throughout Queens.

In 2017, Laura graduated from Touro College, as Valedictorian of her physical therapy class, where she earned dual degrees in Bachelor of Health Science and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. During her studies, Laura discovered her enthusiasm for manual therapy and began taking continuing education classes through The North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). Her goal is to become a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist.

As a lifelong performer and athlete, Laura brings her passion for movement into all aspects of her treatment. In her spare time, she likes to cook, dance, travel, spend time with family and friends, and explore new fitness and movement disciplines.
